IDEAS FOR THE WORK METHODOLOGY

INTRODUCTION: As we choose our topic about DRIP IRRIGATION and presented our review 1 based on some research papers. So we need to discuss briefly about our project. We choose our topic as drip irrigation because in our country we have to give importance to farmers because they are the source of our need. Irrigation is an artificial application of water to the soil through various systems of tubes, pumps, and sprays.Irrigation is normally used in areas where rainfall is inconsistent or dry conditions or drought is expected.Drip irrigation is a micro irrigation method in which the rate of water application is very low and without any pressure. i.e., drop by drop.Drip irrigation is based on the basic concept of irrigation only the roots zone of crop , rather than the entire land surface on which the crop is grow,also known as trickle irrigation or micro irrigation.

IMPORTANCE OF DRIP IRRIGATION: Drip irrigation is used byfarms,commercial green houses and residential green houses,for cultivation in roof gardens,in shopping malls and embankments,in steep slopes

The main components of drip irrigation system are  Water Source  Pumping system  Distribution system  Drip tape (drip tube)  Injectors  Filtration system

SOME MAJOR ISSUES WITH DRIP IRRIGATION:  High initial costs make the technology unfeasible for small and marginal farmers.  Installation of a drip irrigation system requires an initial investment of up to Rs. 1,25,000 per hectare.  High emitter clogging rates due to dust and salinity.  The system requires proper filtration so that dust and other particles do not block the small emitter holes.  The process of applying and being approved for the subsidy however is complex and involves numerous agencies.  It requires a lot of technical and management skills for setting up and upkeep.  Lack of technical and follow up by the government, private companies and NGOs may be a hindrance for adoption.

Generally there is a misconception that drip can be used to the crops which needs less amount of water.In those review we worked on how it can be used to the sugar cane and mango crops as these are the crops which need very large amount ofwater.The PVC pipes used during drip irrigation will get worn out during summers ; Lack of proper knowledge to the farmers on drip irrigation. So here we discussed about some importance of drip irrigation and in this irrigation majorly we will focus on crops like SUGARCANE and MANGO because water is more needed for this crops especially.

SUGARCANE: Sub surface method of drip irrigation is a process where trenches are made and pipe lines are laid under the soil just beside the roots of crop.This method of drip irrigation reduces the loss and each and every drop of water is used by thecrop and there will be high probability of getting more yield.This method also protects the PVC pipes from getting worn out.Though it cost a bit high than normal drip irrigation system it has many advantages like more yield for crops requiring more amount of water and protects PVC from damage.

MANGO: In flood irrigation around the mango crop water is allowed to keep around the tree continuously where the micronutrients present used by the tree to grow.This dilutes the micronutrients which results in no proper growth which leads to decrease in qualitywhereas in drip irrigation we provide loop drip irrigation system where PVC pipes are arranged around the tree in the active region of roots which results in good yield of crop. Drippers will be used in drip irrigation.There are drippers with different dimensions like 2lph(litres per hour),3.8lph,4lph,8lph.These drippers will be used according to the crop .For mango and banana 8lph drippers will be used.For vegetable and flower crops 2lph,4lph drippers are used.

So here we analyzed only two crops and some more crops are there. For every different crop there will be different drip irrigation process and we have to analyze it. We have to do field visit for our project also. By doing field visit we can get the exact information, remedies and what is more important for drip irrigation, advantages and disadvantages can be find out here.
